Dear Cheyenne Mountain School District Staff and Families,
In preparation for the onset of winter, I would like to provide you with some information pertaining to inevitable school delays and closures that will be necessitated by inclement weather.
First and foremost, it is my goal to maintain a normal school schedule whenever possible throughout the winter months. However, when road conditions present a significant safety concern to our students, parents, and staff members who must drive to our schools every day, I will issue a delay or cancel school accordingly.
Typically, a delay to the start of school will occur if it appears that warmer temperatures, and a couple of hours of sunlight will improve conditions. It is important to note that on a delayed start we will have no AM preschool classes and at times, if conditions do not improve, a delay may change to a closure.
Parents may use their own judgment when weather conditions are severe. If you intend to keep your child home, please notify the school office. Ultimately, the decision on whether to send a child to school on inclement weather days rests with parents. This is an important option for parents to keep in mind throughout the entire winter because, inevitably, there will be times when the roads in the majority of the District are safe for travel, but a specific street or route may not be. In this case, all parents need to do is communicate to their school the reason for their child's absence, and the absence will not negatively affect the student's attendance or academic record.
When school is delayed or canceled, I will make every attempt to post a notification by 5:30 a.m. The District uses multiple communication channels to ensure you are informed of delays, closures, and emergency alerts. These include emails, text messages, app notifications, social media posts, and the “Live Feed” on our District and school websites. To ensure you receive notifications please download our NEW District 12 app by visiting “Connect with Us!” on our District website. Additionally, please login to your Infinite Campus (IC) Parent Portal to verify your mobile phone number is current to receive text message notifications.
